Rolez with it!

Oh those French made some great clocks. Clock making goes back millennia but France became one of the premier manufacturers throughout the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Search eBay for a French clock  and you will get thousands of results. There were many clock maker makers in France, however there were few  named  clock makers. Many, many early French clocks have no makers names on them. Even fewer were those who stamped their names on the movements themselves. There were the freres Japy. The Brocot family. A few others. Here's a very understated, silk-thread suspension (remember from my last post ?) Japy Freres black slate mantle clock that I've been ogling: Lovely. But let's get back to the protagonist of our story... Monsieur Jules Rolez. Turns out he is a bit of an elusive fellow.
